Redefining Fleet Operations in Shared Micromobility
As the world’s largest shared micromobility operator, Lime has been pioneering the use of cargo bikes for battery swapping and fleet balancing. Since 2024, we’ve been proud to supply Lime with fleets of our e-cargo trikes across several German and Italian cities. These trikes are used daily to complete battery swaps, ensuring Lime’s scooters remain charged, available, and ready for riders.

The Chariot FS2
Optimized for Urban Micromobility
Lime first used Cargo Cycling’s original Chariot but is now testing the FS2 in Hamburg and Munich. “The FS2 is a revolution,” says Jeroen Beumer, Commercial Director at Cargo Cycling. “With full suspension, dual rear motors, a chainless pedal-generator, and up to 200 kg payload, it’s low-maintenance and highly capable.”
Carrying up to 50 batteries per trip, the FS2 matches van efficiency while offering superior manoeuvrability. “In city centres, you move faster and complete more tasks per hour,” adds Sebastian Krais, Lime Operations Associate.

Why Cargo Bikes?
“Electric cargo bikes have enormous potential in shared mobility fleet management,” says Tim Bütow, Lime’s Operations Manager in Hamburg.
Traditionally, vans were used for battery swaps, but they are inefficient in crowded city centres and produce emissions that conflict with Lime’s sustainability goals. Cargo bikes, on the other hand, are faster, more agile, and unaffected by urban access restrictions.

Scaling Up Sustainable Urban
Logistics with Cargo Bikes
By adopting 14 Cargo Cycling trikes, Lime has reduced its reliance on vans in cities like Munich, Hamburg, and Bremen, showing that sustainable alternatives can be practical and scalable.
“Cargo bikes improve with every generation, and the FS2 is a great example,” says Bütow. “Replacing vans cuts emissions, reduces congestion, and makes cities more liveable.” Close collaboration with Lime ensures the bikes meet evolving needs, demonstrating how cargo bikes deliver both sustainability and operational efficiency at scale.
